Vision & Mission for Church Building / Facility Acquisition
Vision
To become a means of restoration and spiritual growth through the construction of a strong and proper House of God, serving as a center of worship and ministry for the congregation and the community.
Mission
Physical Church Building — Design and construct a comfortable and safe place of worship capable of accommodating the present and future ministry needs of the congregation.
Revitalizing the Spirit of Ministry — Mobilize the congregation to participate through prayer, labor, and financial support as an expression of unity in the Body of Christ.
Spiritual Restoration of the Congregation — Make this project more than just constructing a building, but a momentum to strengthen faith and congregational involvement in ministry.
A Witness to the Community — Present the church as a center of light and love for the surrounding community.
Biblical Foundation
“Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, with all whose spirits God had moved, arose to go up and build the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem. And all those who were around them encouraged them with articles of silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with precious things, besides all that was willingly offered.”
Ezra 1:5–6
Introduction
Since its establishment in 1989, GMII Imanuel Jakarta has not owned a permanent church building. The place of worship has relocated multiple times based on availability and circumstances:
Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta: Began in a congregant’s home, but had to move due to objections from local residents.
Kayu Mas, East Jakarta: Relocated to another residential home; moved again due to ownership claims.
Pulo Asem, East Jakarta: Relocated by borrowing classrooms at a vocational high school.
Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta: Used a meeting hall owned by a Christian foundation.
Kayu Mas, East Jakarta: Granted permission to worship at a supporter’s home.
Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta: Rented a commercial shophouse (ruko).
Pulo Asem, East Jakarta: Returned to using classrooms at the vocational high school.
Pandemic Period to Present: Temporarily conducted services online during the pandemic; after the pandemic, in-person services resumed in the school classrooms, continuing to this day.
Background & Urgency
The longing for a dedicated place of worship has long been the prayer and hope of the congregation. Without an owned church building, growth remains constrained in several areas:
Spiritual Growth Challenges: Limited availability of designated spaces for specialized ministries (fellowship groups, Bible studies, counseling/personal ministry, etc.).
Equipment Wear and Tear: Lack of storage space forces worship equipment (sound system, keyboard, pulpit, etc.) to be moved in and out before and after services, increasing the risk of damage and wear.
Pastoral Housing: No official parsonage (pastori) for the Pastor. GMII Imanuel Jakarta is currently served by an Interim Pastor who also serves as the General Chairman of the GMII Synod.
Long-Term Vision & Benefits
GMII Imanuel Jakarta aims to expand its mission outreach beyond geographical boundaries. This vision requires a firm foundation—a congregation rooted in faith and committed to sharing the Gospel. Owning a church building will enhance the frequency and quality of services (Sunday worship, fellowship groups, community outreach) and ultimately strengthen our missionary work.
Church Building Acquisition Plan
Through the Building Committee, options for permanent church facilities have been surveyed based on key criteria:
Location: Proximity to most congregants’ residences, accessibility, and minimal potential for local community objections.
Capacity: Able to accommodate up to approximately 100 congregants.
Facilities: Suitable to serve as a parsonage for the Pastor and provide adequate parking space.
Budget Target: Under IDR 3,000,000,000.
Neighborhood Security.
Based on these criteria, the Pulomas shophouse area best fits our requirements.
