Vision and Mission for Church Building / Acquisition

Vision

To be a means of restoring and growing faith through building the Lord’s house—solid, proper, and a center of worship and ministry—for the congregation and the wider community.

Mission

  1. Build the Church Physically — Design and construct a worship place that is comfortable, safe, and able to accommodate the congregation’s ministry needs now and in the future.
  2. Revive the Spirit of Service — Mobilize the congregation to participate through prayer, labor, and financial support as an expression of the unity of the body of Christ.
  3. Spiritual Renewal of the Congregation — Make this project not merely a building effort, but an opportunity to strengthen faith and congregational engagement in ministry.
  4. Witness to the Community — Present the church as a center of light and love for the surrounding community.

Biblical Basis

“Then rose up the heads of the fathers’ houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, with all whose spirit God had stirred, to go up to build the house of the LORD that is in Jerusalem. And all who were around them aided them with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, besides all that was willingly offered.”
Ezra 1:5–6 (KJV)

Introduction

Since its establishment in 1989, GMII Imanuel Jakarta has not owned a permanent church building. Our place of worship has moved from one location to another according to circumstances and availability.

  1. Began by using a room in a member’s home in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, and later had to move due to objections from local residents.
  2. Moved to another private residence in Kayu Mas, East Jakarta; due to a claim over the property, the place of worship had to relocate again.
  3. Moved again to borrow a classroom in a vocational school in Pulo Asem, East Jakarta.
  4. Used a meeting hall at a Christian foundation in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.
  5. Was allowed to use a sympathizer’s residence in Kayu Mas, East Jakarta.
  6. Rented a shophouse (ruko) in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
  7. Returned to using a classroom at the vocational school in Pulo Asem. During the pandemic we temporarily shifted to online services; after the pandemic ended, we resumed using the classroom and continue there to this day.

Background and Urgency

The longing to have our own place of worship has long been the congregation’s dream and prayer. Without a church building of our own, growth is hindered in several ways:

  1. Limited ministry that requires dedicated rooms (fellowship groups, Bible studies, personal ministry, etc.), which also challenges spiritual growth.
  2. Limited storage for worship equipment; items must be transported in and out before and after services, causing unnecessary wear and damage (sound system, keyboard, pulpit, etc.).
  3. No adequate parsonage for the Pastor. GMII Imanuel Jakarta is currently served by a Consulting Pastor who also shepherds GMII Korintus in Cibubur.

Long-Term Vision and Benefits

GMII Imanuel Jakarta seeks to expand mission ministry without geographical limitations. Such a vision requires a strong foundation—namely a congregation steadfast in faith and desire to proclaim the Gospel. Having our own church building will increase the frequency and quality of ministry (Sunday services, fellowship groups, community ministries) and ultimately strengthen our mission work.

Property Acquisition Plan

Through the Development Committee, we have surveyed options for a permanent church facility. Key considerations include:

  1. Location: proximity to where most members live, accessibility, and potential resistance from local residents toward church activities.
  2. Capacity: able to accommodate up to approximately 100 worshipers.
  3. Facilities: suitable to serve as a parsonage for the Pastor and to provide adequate parking.
  4. Price: under Rp. 3,000,000,000.
  5. Neighborhood safety.

Based on these factors, the Pulomas shophouse (ruko) area best meets the criteria.

Closing

The vision to acquire a church building is a significant step of faith for our congregation. We invite every member and all whom the Lord calls to help realize this vision through prayer, moral support, and financial giving.

“This is our opportunity to build the house of the Lord. Let us unite, pray, and contribute so that this dream may become a reality.”
